Illustration Rares - Explained
Illustration Rare, commonly shortened to IR, is a Pokémon TCG rarity focused on showcasing Pokémon through beautiful, full-card artwork.
Introduced during the Scarlet & Violet era, Illustration Rare cards take Pokémon that would normally appear as Common, Uncommon or Rare cards and give them an alternative full-art illustration.
Rather than simply showing the Pokémon in a standard battle pose, these cards often place the Pokémon within a larger scene, showing its personality, habitat or interactions with the world around it.
Illustration Rare cards can be identified by the single gold rarity star (★) located near the card number
Special Illustration Rares - Explained
Special Illustration Rare, commonly shortened to SIR, is one of the most desirable modern Pokémon TCG rarity categories and represents a step above the standard Illustration Rare.
Like Illustration Rares, Special Illustration Rares feature detailed full-card artwork designed to tell a story or showcase a Pokémon or character in a unique environment. The major difference is the type of card receiving the artwork and its level of rarity.
Special Illustration Rares are primarily reserved for Pokémon ex and Supporter cards, giving some of the most important cards within a set premium alternate artwork. They can be identified by the two gold rarity stars (★★) located near the card number.
